Westcoast Masters Live Lighter Club Challenge – Sun 13 April

Seven members (Damien, Kevin Ho, Sam, John, Graeme, Tom T and Robert) travelled up to Craigie Leisure Centre to participate in an outdoor long-course (50m) meet.  It was Sam and Tom’s first interclub meet.  Although it was mid-April, the weather was great for an outdoor meet – warm and sunny!  Riverton finished fairly well down the list overall, in 7th position out of 10 clubs with a score of 62 points.  However, our relatively low points score was largely attributed to not being able to enter any relay teams, as all relays were mixed events and our Club did not have any women swimmers on the day.  Nevertheless, almost all of our swimmers managed at least one first placing, while the rest all achieved at least one minor placing, contributing valuable points to the Club’s overall total.  The meet was followed by a most enjoyable lunch. Full results are available on the MSWA website here.

Beatty Park Masters Live Lighter 50s meet – Friday 14 March

Nine members – Emma, Damien, Steve J, Barbara, Lee, John, Graeme, Robert and Steve W – travelled to Beatty Park for an inaugural Friday night meet with 50m only events.  The meet was conducted in the recently renovated outdoor 50m pool, now 10 lanes wide.  The lighting over the pool area is excellent.  Although the night was a little cool, the water temperature was fine and the meet very well run.  It was an ‘open’ event , with 16 clubs represented.  Accordingly, points were not awarded for placings.  Our members acquitted themselves very well, with most gaining at least one first place.  In the Mixed Freestyle Relay, our team placed third in the 160-199 years age group.  Unfortunately, due to lost time arising from a fault with the timing system, the scheduled Mixed Medley Relay was not able to be conducted.  A great pizza meal was provided for swimmers afterwards.  Full results of the meet are available on the MSWA website here.

Newman Churchlands Masters Live Lighter Club Challenge – Sunday 16 February

Seven of our members – Damien, Kevin Ho, Lea, John Porter (new member transferred from Perth City Swim Club), Graeme, Robert and Steve W – made the journey up to the Newman College pool to participate in an outdoor, long-course (50m) meet. The weather was great for an outdoor meet – warm and sunny and pool water temperature just right! Although 8 members had entered to swim, one had to withdraw due to a family commitment.  Riverton managed 8th out of 11 clubs with 73 points; and six of our swimmers managed at least one first placing.  Although not a great overall result, Riverton did win the Men’s 160-199 years age group Freestyle Relay as well as the handicap award, based on average points per swimmer participating.  The meet was followed by a very good ‘sausage sizzle’ lunch.  Full results are available on the MSWA website here.
