On Saturday 16 August, a record 17 members of the Riverton Masters Swimming Club participated in the MSWA Golden Groper State Relay Carnival at Challenge Stadium, Mt Claremont.  The Carnival was held in a short-course (25m) pool.  Nineteen members had entered; however 2 (Damien Eyre and Tammy Souster) had to withdraw due to illness.  Members participating were Emma Cheney, Mark Hevron, Kevin Ho, Hossam (Sam) Ismail, Lee Murphy, Nadine Neethling, John Porter, Danae Roney, Karen Smith, Peta Steffens, Eric Taylor, Tarmo (Tom) Terve, Bert Vosbergen, Robert Weir, Steve Wills, Jasmine Wynen-Gaugg and Yvonne Yoo.  The Club did reasonably well overall, finishing sixth with 74 points, out of 14 participating clubs and generally the clubs which finished ahead of us have larger memberships.

Our Club fielded 17 teams across the 10 events on offer, with teams in 5 age groups. The Club’s swimmers competed in an average of 5 events each – an exhausting, but fun morning!  The events covered 4 x 100m medley mixed (no Riverton teams), 4 x 50m freestyle for men and women, 4 x 50m medley mixed, 4 x 25m medley for men, women and mixed and 4 x 25m freestyle for men, women and mixed.  The mixed teams each comprised 2 men and 2 women.

Riverton’s results included 4 first placings as well as 3 second places and 2 third places.  Well done to all our swimmers who put in big efforts and contributed to our overall points score!

A table indicating the placings and points received for all the Riverton teams can be found here and the full results of the meet can be viewed here.
