2016 State Relay Carnival

On Saturday 23 July, 14 members of the Club participated in the MSWA Golden Groper State Relay Carnival at HBF Stadium, Mt Claremont.  The Carnival, hosted by Claremont Masters, was held in a short-course (25m) pool.  Members participating were Mark D, Barry, Karen, Mark H, Kevin, Steve J, Barbara, Lee, John, Graeme, Tarmo, Robert, Sabrina and Steve W.   As we had only 3 ladies, we were not able to enter any women’s teams, thereby missing out on many points.  An unfortunate disqualification in one of the mixed relays also lost us some points.  Consequently, the Club did not do particularly well, finishing 10th with 40 points, out of 13 participating clubs.

Our Club fielded 9 teams across the 10 events on offer, with teams in 4 age groups.  The events available were 4 x 50m medley mixed, 4 x 50m freestyle for men and women, 4 x 25m freestyle for men, women and mixed and 4 x 25m medley for men, women and mixed. The mixed teams each comprised 2 men and 2 women.  A 6 x 25m ‘Dash for Cash’ event with $300 first prize was again held, after its popularity as an inaugural event last year.  It is an open event for clubs to field their fastest team on the day and each team had to include at least 2 women.  Riverton managed 6th out of 8 clubs competing.  Over the day, our Club’s swimmers competed in an average of 3 events each.

Riverton’s results included 3 first placings as well as one second place and one third place. Well done to all our swimmers who put in big efforts and contributed to our overall points score!
