1. DISTANCE OR AEROBIC SWIM MEETS

These are time trials over 400m, 800m and 1500m distances and are swum in both long course (50m) and short course (25m) pools.  Any member can nominate to swim to test their aerobic fitness over the longer distances in all strokes.  Members enter through their Club Captain and are expected to attend for the whole event and assist with time-keeping when not swimming.  Dates and details of the events being held each year are listed on the annual MSWA Pool Events Calendar.

2.  STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS

Members enter these annual meets using the same process as LLCC events, through the Club Captain.  Clubs enter members via the software program entry system and select relay teams in the same fashion.  The swim meet is usually held over a weekend at HBF Stadium in Mt Claremont, although may be held at a country location every few years.  They are generally held as a long-course format (50m pool) but also held as a short-course format (25m pool) from time-to-time.

3.  NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS

Members enter these annual meets via an online system.  The ‘Nationals’ are generally rotated through the States, so that a meet is held in each state about every 7-8 years.  They may be held as a long or short course format.  Western Australia last hosted the ‘Nationals’ in 2018.

4.      FINA WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Members enter these meets individually and relay entries are coordinated by their Club.  The meets are held every 2 years, rotated through different countries and cities.  The ‘Worlds’ have been held twice in Australia to date, in Brisbane in 1988 and Perth in 2008.

5.   AUSTRALIAN AND WORLD MASTERS GAMES

These Games incorporate several sports for Masters competitors, including swimming and often other aquatic sports.  Anyone who meets the entry criteria can enter these meets and do so individually.  They do not need to belong to a Masters club; however if wanting to swim in relays, entries are coordinated by their Club.

6. OTHER EVENTS

From time-to-time, pool swim meets may be conducted in country venues and most are open to all Masters Swimming members to encourage participation and support regional clubs.  Entry is via the same process as for LLCC events.
